Volunteer Translators

 

Who we are: 

Growing Together Levenshulme is a volunteer-led gardening project aimed at providing a therapeutic environment for asylum seekers, refugees and others in a similar situation. It provides a place to learn about growing food, engage with nature, socialise, exercise, and get involved in the community. The project attracts many regular participants. The garden operates on vegan-organic principles, promoting permaculture and wildlife conservation.

What are we looking for: 

We are looking for translator volunteers who are fluent in English and the target languages below:

  • Arabic
  • Urdu
  • Vietnamese
  • Lingala
  • Namibia
  • Basi Vana
  • Kurdish  

We will need interpreting and file translating.

What would you be doing:

We need volunteer translators to help our charity and our participants overcome the language barrier. Your work will support refugees and asylum seekers, ensuring they receive the help and the information they need.

This role would suit somebody who:

  • Works well with people from a variety of backgrounds
  • Has a reasonable level of spoken English
  • Has a commitment to working in an empowering way
  • Respects the confidentiality
