Dog Champions Volunteer
Who we are:
Street Paws is a charity that provides free vet care for dogs that live with the homeless. We also work with temporary accomodation providers to encourage them to take not just the owners but their dogs.
What are we looking for?
You must be able to work with a small team, and be approachable as our service users often find trusting people difficult.
What would you be doing as a volunteer?
As a Dog Champions Volunteer you will visit your assigned hostel or drop in centre once a month. You will meet with both the staff to discuss how the scheme is working, and also with our service users to register the dogs staying there, given out supplies such as dog coats, treats, and check no vet care is needed.
We would also like you to take photos, with the owners permission of the dogs and perhaps do some small live videos so knowlege of social media is a bonus.
This is a brand new scheme and a great chance to be part of something that can really make a difference to how people move forward after being homeless.
- To meet with our service users and their dogs on a monthly basis, working alongside your Dog Champions partner.
- To fill in paperwork to register the dogs with Street Paws then send it to our Dog Champions co ordinator by email.
- Check there are no health problems the owners are worried about that may need vet care, if so report this back to the Street Paws team.
- Give out supplies as needed for the dogs. Make sure the dogs get special presents at Christmas.
- Check in with accomodation staff to make sure they have no problems with the learning platform used for training.
- Take photos, and live videos with owners permission – constent forms for this need filling in. A knowlege of social media is an advantage.
Own transport or the use of public transport is needed.
Full training and induction will be given.
